At the center of every life-changing advancement lies research. From finding answers to the unknown, to changing how health professionals work, research is essential to providing the best outcomes for our patients. Through his 25-year tenure at UTHealth Houston, Dr. Michael Blackburn, Dean of MD Anderson UTHealth Houston Graduate School, has dedicated his time and energy to advancing research that will improve the well-being of our communities.
In honor of Dr. Blackburn’s tremendous impact and upcoming retirement, UTHealth Houston is establishing the Michael R. Blackburn, PhD, Research Accelerator Fund. This endowment will become a permanent source of seed funding to empower students, junior faculty, and seasoned researchers across UTHealth Houston to launch promising projects that will address pressing health concerns.
Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience conducting research while being mentored by faculty and learning how to develop grant applications. Faculty at all career stages will be able to receive start-up funds to produce the preliminary data needed to compete for federal funding. In this way, the Blackburn Research Accelerator Fund will enrich the scientific community of our schools while continuing Dr. Blackburn’s efforts to foster advancements that will save lives and shift scientific paradigms.
Gifts of all sizes toward the Blackburn Research Accelerator Fund will be matched two-to-one by UTHealth Houston up to the first $1,000,000. By making a gift today, you can triple your impact while continuing the vision and legacy of a scholar whose compassion, dedication, and vision have shaped our institution and touched countless lives.
