Giving Tuesday

December 02, 2019

Living with gratitude is one of the cornerstones of recovery. This season of thanksgiving, sharing, and good-will, we ask you to extend your generosity to our program.

Many of our HEROES are rebuilding their lives from the ground up and restoring relationships with family and friends. We believe that obstacles to safe, sober housing, transportation to therapy and support groups, and prescription medication can be prevented with a few charitable donations.

This Giving Tuesday we ask that you reconsider spending money on your morning coffee or bagel and instead give a few dollars toward our program. Your contribution will help us provide housing, transportation and medical assistance to people recovering from opioid use disorder.

Wishing you all a safe and sound holiday season and a new year of wonderful joy.

All the best,

The HEROES team.

Full Circle

October 01, 2019

We have reached the end of a great Recovery Month! Only a month ago did we at HEROES host our very first Overdose Awareness Day Event, launching our very first crowdfunding campaign. What a whirlwind!

We would all like to extend a warm thank you to each person that has donated to and shared about our cause. Every cent provides immediate resources to our patients who are courageously building new, drug-free lives from scratch. It is important to us that each of our patients knows that they are not alone - that their choice to recover is supported not only by the whole HEROES team but by the community at large. Every penny and every positive word that is spoken about our program helps us move toward a world in which stigma no longer has the power to prevent people from recovering from opioid use disorder. It takes us a step closer to preventing fatal opioid overdoses. It brings us a step closer to finding solutions to end the opioid epidemic. And for each of those steps we take together as a community, we thank you for your courage and willingness to collaborate!  The cause doesn't end here. Our fundraising platform will remain open until midnight, and soon an Evergreen campaign will allow anyone to donate to the HEROES program at any time.  Thank you all for your support and contributions.

Sincerely,

The HEROES team.

Three dollars, three shares, three days!

September 27, 2019

HEROES is reimagining the way we approach treatment for people living with opioid use disorder. We base our approach in THREE core principles: assertive outreach, medical intervention, and behavioral support. Pictured below are THREE of our team experts holding a certificate for presenting the keynote session at the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) State Conference earlier this month.

THREE huge events have afforded us the opportunity to share our message and help people recover from opioid use disorder. We hosted an Overdose Awareness Day Event, presented at the TAAP state conference, and donated Narcan to thousands of people at the Big Texas Rally for Recovery!

We have THREE days left of Recovery Month 2019. If you donate $3 today, and encourage THREE people to do the same, we may be able to raise over THREE TIMES our original goal!

HEROES heads to the Big Texas Rally for Recovery

September 23, 2019

On September 21st 2019, HEROES took the show on the road and represented UTHealth Houston in at the Big Texas Rally for Recovery in Arlington, Texas. Furthering our mission to prevent fatal opioid overdoses, we provided over 1000 units of Narcan, encouraging everyone to keep it with them just like any other first aid kit. Your donation could save a life by providing one of these essential overdose reversal kits!

Excellent job, team! The mission to save lives and find solutions to end the opioid epidemic continues!

KHOU 11: 'HEROES' help save lives from opioid addiction

"The number of people dying from an overdose may have finally peaked in the U.S. Early numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show overdose deaths fell in 2018. Local doctors still call it an epidemic. However, a UTHealth program is changing the course of addiction for many. For instance, Debi McNerny has been trapped in what seemed like a never-ending cycle of addiction for more than 30 years...." read more.
